MW & M lift pump the same?

My car died yesterday because of a clogged main fuel filter.
Just as it died, I was able to pull into a parking lot & change it.
I always keep essential spare parts and tools in the trunk.

When I was priming it, the hand pump was leaking like crazy.
I have an M pump at home I pulled off a Euro 300. I was thinking
of swapping out the entire lift pump instead of just the primer.

The lift pumps look different.
Does anyone know if it will swap out?

Thanks & Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!!

Jeff

I know there are different types. One with two nuts and one with three nuts. Besides that I don't know.

One obvious difference is that on the M pump, the primer is
in between the in/out ports and the IP. On the MW pump the
primer is on the outboard side of the ports.

Mmmmm
Turkey is calling............

I believe the M Pump (on a 617) has the one with 2 Nuts and am sure the MW has 3 Nuts.
The innards of the M Lift Pump are different. I believe it uses disc Valves similar to the ones in your Vacuum Pump.

Rebuild Kits are available for both.

The "M" Pump is off a 617 NA. I don`t remember if it has 2 or 3 bolts that mount it to the engine. But I think it will fit as Sirnik84 put one one his 84 SD, but it was doggy because it doesn`t deliver the same amount of fuel. He swapped it back to a "MW" Pump.

Wouldn`t it be easier to just swap in a new/different Primer Pump? That is if you have one. Be hard to source one today.

I believe they are the same, I remember the one on my euro looking exactly like the one on a turbo I pulled for my current car....all is working fine.....

As was suggested just swap over the primer pump so much easier, that is if the m pump primer is the newer black style....

I can confirm the OM61X information you give is correct - I haven't a clue about the OM60X ones though

I think you mean this thread?

http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/294499-refreshing-fuel-pump-om617-european-spec-%96-non-turbo.html

If you look through this thread you can see the M pump lift pump (too many pumps - gets confusing - hang in there folks!) and then later on the roller affair on the non turbo MW pump variant which also seems to have randomly migrated back to Europe (or perhaps didn't always leave for the US of A)

.

M and MW are different beasts, M is weaker fuel supplier and has no
turbo actated solenoid also VCV spot (vacuum transmision) bracket is missing..

you will loose much and gain nothing (well..some space maybe..)

unless you let Tomnik,Dieselmaken or Myna guys plays with it first

Yes, the lift pump on the M is 2 bolt and on the MW is 3 bolt.
I ended up just swapping the primer pumps.
Whoever put the primer pump in my car didn't put in the copper washer,
which accounts for that nasty leak.

Easy 15 min fix.

Has anyone here had an M pump modded by Tomnik or Dieselmaken?
Out of my budget, I'm sure, just curious. Anyone interested in buying
an M pump?

Jeff

I was wondering if the (euro) m-pump is being modded by dieselmeiken and such for use with the turbo 617's and if so what does he do about the missing turbo pump solenoid aspect for the turbo motors, when using these m-pumps on turbo motors? I assume the m-pump was exclusively used on the non turbo 617 european versions?

Charlie,
Thanks for the tip. I've been reading about how there can be problems
storing these IPs long term. This one has only been sitting here for a few
months. Think I'll put it up for sale and try to find it a good home.
I pulled it from that same euro 300d I got the manual tranny from.

Hope you had a good Thanksgiving at your Mom's and maybe found time
to sneak off to the JY in Carson City

Jeff
