W123 Keyless Entry

Has anyone on the forum did an install on the 80's 240D's. I would like to do one in the near future, and would like to know how it's done. Like if you still know where you got the parts and the instructions to do it. I am really at this time only wanting to have a driver's side door lock and unlock by keyless. Any help would be great.

This is based on an install in a w126, but it should give some idea:

the 123 is purely mechanical, so to get keyless, you'll need an actuator to move the driver's lock... and IF the stock system is working, all the doors will unlock also.

The actuator is what I was concerned about. I didn't know if that was required or not? Is an actuator just another word for a solenoid?? I looked at some of the keyless units advertised, but I didn't notice any actuators with them. Also, on a 240D will the trunk lock and unlock, as well, by the driver's side door? Actually, my reason for doing this is because, I got locked out of a 240 in an ice storm once. I had to find a heat gun to be able to open up the door...

Yes, if everything is working the trunk and fuel door will lock and unlock as well.

as long as the trunk is not key locked, it will open with the driver's door lock actuator.

Its completely feasible. The wagon I bought had one installed. It did not work at the time, but the way it was wired suggested that it did. There were leads running to the headlight switch to activate the lights when it would lock and unlock. Also the 12v actuator was on drivers door.
