OM602 Water Pump - Quality Brand?

When I did the rebuild on my OM602 19,353 miles ago the water pump was replaced with a Geba unit from thebenzbin.c0m. That pump is now making noise that sounds like a dry bearing

It could be that the Geba is just a bad unit but but I don't want to replace the next pump in 20,000 miles. Looking on Pelican Parts there are 5 options - 3 brands all rated excellent (Saleri, Graf and Laso) - 1 rated good (Meyle) and the genuine MB unit rated best. Thankfully there are no Uro units

Seeking recommendations for brand based on experience?

OM 602.962 Water Pumps.Get the O.E. MB Pump

Depending on the actual engine # there are Two possible part numbers.
602 200 02 20 (Which is a 69mm Impeller equipped water pump)
There are permutations in part #s BOTH before and after this number.
The end result is:
605 200 08 20 (Which is a 72mm equipped water pump)

Now,try adding 88 to the end of either part number which is Mercedes
designation for a Factory Reman.AND price it out!

Price drops in half!!! (Same MB warranty)

Even Crazier...
Some of these "Remans" when they arrive to you are actually Brand Spanking
New Mercedes Water Pumps. Go Figure ("Shortage of Cores "?)

If your Stealer/Supplier/Internet Purveyor does not require a core charge
this MAY be an indication that you will receive a Brand New Pump @ reman
price.

I'm lucky enough to own a MB reman OM602 ('92 version) made in 2006 so I know I'd need the WP # 605 200 08 20.
AND I've already found one of the "88" versions for $129.00 USD plus tax BUT with no core charge.[At a Stealership]
So I suspect it'll be a Brand New Pump.

Bilsteins

I see You went with the Sport model shocks.
(Allegedly,Urban legend has it that the Sports have the same valving as the
HDs ONLY a Shorter operating rod for lowered chassis)
Did you lower the chassis by changing out the springs for shorter ones?

AND more importantly,How is the ride?

Thanks.

EDIT: from eshocks

"Are the heavy duty shocks designed for hard use or made as an all around shock?
Bilstein heavy duty shocks are very suitable for both on and offroad use. They may be stiffer than your OEM shocks, but should give you a better feeling of control and stability.
What is the main difference between the different settings?
Comfort setting shocks would be very much like the original shocks for your car. Heavy Duty will be somewhat stiffer and give your car a stiffer and more controlled ride. Sport setting shocks are 30% stiffer than Heavy Duty and are usually used with lowering springs for very hard driving and competition. We recommend Heavy Duty shocks for most applications."

Thanks for the information, very helpful!

602 200 02 20 shows as the correct part # for my year / engine and I like the idea of a larger impeller (ie: more flow) so a 605 200 08 20 will be the ticket.

As for the reman (88) trick - sheer genius! Tonight after work, I'll see what's available.

Water Pump W124.128

last summer changed the water pump on my 1991 W124.128. Old unit had the
number 603 201 01 10 and the MB Star. On the shaft, impeller side, is stamped in INA which is a devision of the Schaeffler Group. Pump was not giving me trouble yet but thought time to change as car passed 130K miles. Sourced a pump made by SKF, Svenska Kugellagerfabriken. Unit marked made in Germany and has a metal impeller.
For the r&r removed the alt. bracket which is held in place by 5 bolts. In order to remove the Allen head screw located in the front of the bracket the balancer's cutout has to be over this screw. Local MB dealer quoted me $ 200.00 for the pump.

Cutting my teeth on Detroit Iron (GM products) from the 60's and 70's it's these little touches of engineering that I love about my Merc and keep me doing my own work. The forethought and understanding of how such a small mod would make things easier for repairs. I often marvel at how advanced my 124 was in 1991.
