what a feeling

I got my smashed W124 E300D refinished.

I got myself a front wrecked W124 and cut out the rear from it. Whilst at it I made myself a fully refurbed rear subframe (all links new - the pushing links being lemforder) new bushings and mounts, new diff mounts. New rear shocks and new ball joints in the rear carrier.

New bushings in the front LCAs

the car feels amazing - almost as if its gliding BUT on rails, on the highway it has really transformed the car - I think I now know what these were famous for. Even my wife who says all cars drive the same said it was really amazing to drive.

btw I added some dynamat sheets to the rear floor. wheel well bulges and under the rear seat to quieten road noise too.

Zulfi,

You awesome guy! Good on you for saving your '95! I thought for sure when you got the 210 that you'd given up on the 124. That is great news. Tell us more about the job.

I am in the FINAL stages of doing this for Jaybob's son's wagon.
both of us CANNOT WAIT to get it on the road and see how it feels... EVERY SINGLE SUSPENSION part is new. EVERYTHING!
replaced the Diff, replaced the rear bearings, subframe links, and mount bushings, the entire car front to back is rebuilt. front was done this spring, rear will be completed ANY FREAKING DAY NOW... and getting it on the road is SOOO TEMPTING.
it's a wagon, so it'll be a tad heavier, but more aerodynamic I think. I've been taking pics, so I'll gather them all up, and post them.

Zulfi! I REALLY hope you did the same, and post your work and photo's for the site!

didnt take any pics while working on the pieces, neither cutting the donor. The body paint finish work is not super remarkable geprufte qualitat (maybe I was expecting a hand finished rolls royce lol)

the front BJ were replaced not too long ago, the front struts were good, the problem of my car banging on dips was due to bad bushings on the front LCAs.

I redid the entire rear subframe (from the donor) and bolted it to my car with my car's diffy.

I got a set of new links but also a couple of new lemforder pushing links as these are the ones that take the full load of the car when moving - so quality is needed.

New bushings (asked a small shop to remove and press in bushings) - subframe mounts were easy with a threaded rod borrowed from my handy BJ press.

new rear shocks

After the job you - I sorta understand why there are no cupholders - you dont need other comforts like a coffee while driving this machine - just enjoy the drive.
