76 w115 240d half shafts

on my way to work today i think i lost one of the cv's on the passenger side. it wasn't the clunkity clunk i've had with my vw's it was more like Thor letting his hammer fly. i limped home but won't have time to look at anything for a couple of days. any advice on what to look for? i am assuming that i need to replace the whole half shaft and not just the cv ala vw.
thanks,

most likely. the 123's are complete shafts, no way to rebuild without massive equipment... if the 123 axles are the same, I've got some still that are rebooted... at least one...

from what i understand there are two kinds one with bolts at the cv and one without. i haven't been under the car yet to see which i have. other than that w114, w115 and w123 use the same parts apparently.

i finally had a chance to get under the car today and it looks like the rear sway bar link is broken on the passenger side. the sway bar is rubbing on the wheel. i imagine the banging is from it hitting the tire weights. i'll start with new links and if that doesn't fix it i'll move on to the axles.
