What does this vaccum control do? Picture
 

I have a 1985 300TD.
This vaccum switch or controller sits a top the ALDA valve and is right in front the oil filter housing. The vaccum hose you see goes thru the firewall above the steering and is not connected.
The Alda valve itself seems to be connected aNd the car seems to have good power. Also if I suck thru the valve does not hold any vaccum, it seems to just suck air thru it.

the VCV? it controls the vacuum going to the transmission. that black line that goes through the firewall is just a vent line and should not be connected to anything inside.

Then I guess all is well then. The trans seems to shift correctly.
I saw the line unconnected and wondered.

Given that I made the auto trans go away, can I remove the VCV? Do I have to plug any holes or anything? The more junk (no longer useful) stuff I can remove the better I like it.

you could remove it, it just screws into the top of the IP. if you carefully remove the linkage and clip, people here might be grateful because they break easily. the vcv itself is also highly sought after. then i'd just plug the associated vacuum lines so that you dont have door lock problems.

The VCV is NLA, they are valuable to the right person.

Perhaps someone else can confirm, but from what I am seeing in the pic, you have a vacuum line running out of the lower part of the VCV, on the side.

On my car(s) that is a bleed vent, so unless that is a short piece of plastic vacuum line stuck in there, your lines are hooked up incorrectly.

HOWEVER, as you say the car shifts fine... well who am I to argue :D?

The line you see on the side runs to a small fuel filter (used as a small air filter in this case) and then it is ran in the car with a hard plastic line that is open to the atmosphere.

DOOR LOCKS!!!! (chuckling to myself wildly!) You might want to take a look at my build thread. My 617 is in a race-only S-10 pick up with full roll cage, etc. Not sure there ARE any door locks, vacuum or otherwise.

And guys - thanks for the input. Who wants a VCV?

That is a vent port for the VCV, it ends in the cabin to draw clean air to bleed down the transmission as it shifts. The higher the rpm, the less vacuum it needs.

That is for the automatic transmission only.

Interesting, on my cars the black line to the cabin is MIA and the rubber elbow is just open to the engine compartment. Thanks
