couple of tips for those re-sealing the delivery valves...

Did this job on my 115 yesterday. Couple of things that I had not foreseen, and did not see in other threads about this job.

1) Don't drop those dang tiny springs! Both my 240Ds are absolutely merciless when it comes to tiny objects dropped in the engine compartment. Nothing ever seems to fall all the way through to the ground. Only took me about an hour or so to find it, though.... Only dropped one. Got VERY, VERY careful with the other ones!

2) After I was done resealing the valves, It was necessary to loosen the bleed screw on top of the injection pump and pump the hand pump for a long time until ALL the air came out. Until I did this, I could not get any fuel to come out of the front three valves of the pump no matter how long I cranked the engine. #4 got fuel to the injector pretty quickly, but the other three stayed dry until I cracked that screw and bled the top of the pump.

3) Leave the lines cracked at the injectors until they are ALL flowing fuel and ready to tighten. I made the mistake of tightening each line as it started to flow fuel, but since it took a while to get them all bled, by the time I got them all bled, the ones that I had tightened had flooded the cylinders with unburned fuel. When I finally got it running, it was a mighty cloud of smoke...

Otherwise, it was a successful job. Car runs again, and even starts right up in the morning. Still a little smoky, though. Checking the timing is next, and it's probably time for an injector rebuild.

I fixed it for you
pretty much ANY time you are working around the IP with small parts, I recommend jamming a towel into the space between the block and pump...
