123 Guide Rod Mount removal in PNP

I found a set of Guide Rod Mounts in a 240D in one of the PNP yards. these still have the paper sticker on the back side, and look new, looked like a MB sticker, but didn`t have my reading glasses with me at the time.

My question is.... I have never replaced these, but looks like they come in from the back side. If so, looks like I could loosen up the bolt on the clamp, then turn the nut portion of the threaded rod of the Guide Rood mount. this should unscrew it from the long rod from the lower Control Arm. Then remove the 3 bolts and the mount should pull out from the back side. Or am I all wet with my thinking?

If the Mount comes out from the front side, using a Ratchet Strap, could I pull the lower Control Arm forward enough to clear the Mount? and maybe push the Rod sideways enough?

Here is a couple suspension pic I came across.

A simpler picture.

Loosen clamp #38

Turn nut on base of threaded rod #26

Remove

Remove #32, 3 Bolts

Pull #5 Forward , lower Control Arm.

Taking these apart at home is one thing and the JY another. just want to do it the simplest east safest way. First new one`s I have come across.

i havent done this but i've read lots of threads where people have done it. you have to use a ratchet strap to pull the control arm as far forward as you can get it to go. the mount unbolts from the back but has to come forward to come out.

disconnect the torsion rod from the upper control arm first, then move it out of the way! unbolt, and unscrew.

^^^ are you sure that is it? I still think you need a ratchet strap to move the lower control arm (#8 in the pic) forward a few inches to even get enough clearance for the rod (#21 in the pic) to move.

Since this is JY car....couldn't a person just remove the UCA and then sit in the engine bay and undo the shocK(out of harms way) and let the spring pop out.....then remove the LCA?

nah that's too much pressure on the spring you never get the LCA bolt out.

Couldn't one just hack the control rod at a convenient spot?

I need a spring compressor ,same issue ,want the parts ,cant get them without the SC tool .Real annoying ,just seen A very nice frt end on a 240 at the yard ,engine is already pulled and is on 4 stands .My 300cd is gotten very scary to drive ,poor guide rods gives the car abit of steering wheel waving during heavy braking.I figure I would save $500 easy with the tool and FEW good used parts.

where are you located? there are several members (including me) that rent them out for a small fee out of the deposit.

yes, a hacksaw should make short work of the tube of steel guide rod... much simpler than disconnecting and ratchet strapping...
