300sd hood release adjustment
Hello,
My hood release handle was very hard to pull and get the hood to pop. I lubed the latches under the hood, but still the handle was almost impossible to pull and get it to release. Well with the cold weather it got worse, and the other day the handle broke off. I can get the hood open by pulling the cable with vise grips, but still I have to pull almost to the breaking point. If I have someone push down on the hood where the latches are, the cable pulls very easily. There must be some form of adjustment to the springs, or latch to get this set correctly. Any Ideas. Thanks

Replace the inside handle, fixed mine.

Thanks I'll do that as soon as possible. But that won't fix the hard pulling problem.
It feels like the springs on the latch are too tight. But I don't see how to ease the tension on them.

If you will note from the pic of the hood cable (1984 Mercedes-Benz 300SD Base Sedan - Bumpers, Doors, Latches & Lids - Page 2) there is a threaded adjustment. It's located near the fender when installed. I've noticed that they tend to stretch a little after initial replacement. If you have one side that is late to release, about the only adjustment is adding a split washer between the cable stop and the bracket.
