Does any sell the die needed for the IP threaded outlets

OK, I just tackled the IP coupler. A forum member is sending me one tomorrow.

So, since I am on a roll today ...

Here's my second issue:

Same engine, OM617.912 NA MB Diesel, W123, same unusual pump which is a MW pump with no ALDA, but the threaded ends are the same on all of these IP pumps. The 17mm nut - steel injection line which threads onto the IP pump ports (x5). It's a metric thread obviously. Does anyone sell or know who sells a die so that I can clean up the threads ??? I have some threaded collars on 4 of them, but the 5th (one in picture) feels very "weird" while trying to screw it on, so I do not want to force it. Is this a metric version of a NPT type thread? EG, is it tapered somehow or an unsual type of thread?

Thanks in advance.

Based on my drip tool nut, the fitting is M12 x 1.5.

A thread restorer would be a better option than a die.

Would this be a common item, such as the one found in the link ?

Kastar Metric Thread Restorer Die Set | 910-900 | J&P Cycles

Or, is there something unique about the threads, pitch, et cet ?

Thanks in advance.

Hello agian!
There is nothing special about the threads. They are straight 12mm x 1.50. Almost any hardware store or auto parts store will have the die. Get the one that looks like a big six point nut so that you can run it down with a wrench. They also make round ones, but for those you need a die stock which wouldn't clear the adjacent injection fitting. Hope this helps.

Cheers
Chris

Looks like tight quarters for a conventional die.

That would be exactly what I was talking about. Ideally, a die is not the best option for repairing damaged threads; a thread restorer works much better in most cases.

With a little CCW rotation, the nipple will be in a bunch all by itself.

I take it they're hen's teeth? I assumed one objective was to not touch the delivery valve holder. If it can be removed, why not replace it? If it's going to be rotated any, aren't new seals a good idea?

If the IP is going to be drip timed on installation, the #1 nipple will have to be removed anyway.

Hmm... clean the threads and swap it with a DVH that's not going to be touched whenever the IP is timed.

OT - it took Bosch 60 years to figure out RIV as a replacement for the drip method?

I have a BUND AVL 875 Timing device ... no drip method. I am thinking a die will barely fit. I have a 12m x 1.50 in my garage somewhere. LOL.

Pepboys may have Hex Dies cheaply and NAPA may have it; more expensive.
Ebay will have Hex Dies.
The thread restores are often a set instead of individuals.

Sears maybe; look at their website to see.

The toreque is so low and there is no sealing done on the threads that a regular Hex Die verses the Thread chasing Die does not matter.

$13.38 McMaster p/n 2573A59
McMaster-Carr

Parts typically arrive next day for me (NJ->MD)

Shipping will probably be around $8, might as well stock up on methanol sprayers and clear tubing while you're at it.

EDIT: Why can't you pull the piece and clean the threads off-car? You have to pull that to check the delivery valves anyway....
