Where to get hose to replace the small section under T-stat
I am trying to locate a source to get a replacement cooling hose. It is the small section under the thermostat housing. Here is a thread with a picture.
http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/283143-cooling-system-what-part.html Has anyone got/replaced this hose recently? Got a part number to a local auto parts shop?

I went to an autoparts store, and purchased 3" of 1-5/8" fuel tank hose... very strong, very cheap.

Here you go, they also sell it by the meter for 36$.....but beware, your tstat housing is probably badly pitted causing the leak...
****************************** I'm sorry, but it's not allowed to post competing parts sale sites on the forum. I'll keep looking in pelican's catalog to see if I can find it there so a public message can be made.

Peach doesn't have it. I bought from one of the competitors for a couple of bucks. Forgot which. pressure test the system before you consider the job finished. I found several leaks that were easily fixed.

like I said, fuel tank filler hose at any auto parts store works perfectly. it's reinforced like the original hose was, and it can handle the heat of the exhaust manifold, and fuel/oil spills just fine.
it's hard to believe Pelican can't get it, but it sure is not easy to FIND it on their site!

I had read the comment about the 1 5/8" fuel filler hose before starting this thread. I called 3 auto part stores and none of them carried that size.
The leak is coming from around the hose. What do you mean the thermostat housing being pitted inside would cause a leak? So it is possible I need a new thermostat housing?

Thermostat Housing "Could be" pitted where the hose is clamped to it.
I have taken the hoses off and there is a lot of corrosion under the hose. Not always, but a lot of the time. PNP charges something like $7.50 for each 1/2 of the housing if you need one. There is a 50% off sale coming up on the 15th. A Hydraulic Hose shop probably would have the hose if you can`t find it. They carry about any type of hose you can think of. Charlie

Napa
When I replaced that little section a year ago, I got straight radiator hose from Napa. I guess it was their store brand and I bought a foot and used like 3 or 4 inches. It started weeping slightly after 3 months or so but that could have been from using the same old clamps.
I really don't have a good answer for you since I'd like to have better hose too. I need to replace my thermostat and don't want to use the Napa hose again but this is probably the best you can get from a chain store: NAPA AUTO PARTS This is the silicone version which I should have purchased but wasn't aware of at the time. I hope this helps. |

It seems like it has been mentioned before in the forum, that use of JB weld has been a satisfactory mode of repair for the pitting often found on the thermostat housing underneath this short hose.

I replaced this short hose a few years ago, got it from Phil. I have had a problem with it weeping not matter how tight I put the clamps or reposition them. the Thermostat Housing was clean.
My Indy says when he has this problem he uses the Permatex 2B Form A Gasket sealer between the hose and Thremostat Housing. Charlie

that napa stuff is identical to the "fuel filler hose" I got at orilies... I'll go back to the store and pull the tag on it. it's possible the store clerk mistakenly sold me coolant hose and called it "fuel filler hose"...

most auto parts shops will carry the hose size you need, but it will be a formed application based radiator hose. I had the same problem finding just straight universal hose as well.
What I did was bring the small section you pulled out, and ask them if you can go in the back and match the ID with the hanging radiator hoses that are there in abundance, then buy one, and the application will be random. Might cost 30 bucks for a full radiator hose, but you will be able to solve the problem, and have spare hose for 5-10 replacements

The part is available for $4.99. And the OP knows where to get it.
