bleeding fuel lines

i had to pull the tank out of my 83 300td. for the time being i'm going to put a temporary tank in the trunk area (i have an 10 gallon marine tank). there will be about 4' of new line that i'll have to run to do this, and i also can't be sure that the lines foward of the tank didn't drip themselves dry in the week or so its been sitting without a tank. i've bled the lines plenty of times with the primer pump and by cracking the injectors, but this was usually just because of a clogged fuel filter or something like that...not sure if there is anything else i can do to bleed air that is between tank and filter? besides driving it till it stalls, cracking injectors, and driving till it stalls again. any thoughts?

p.s. also the temporary tank only has an outlet. any reason why looping the return would be bad?

By looping the return line do you mean feeding it back to the IP upstream of the lift pump? Does the temporary tank have a vent?

the temporary tank does have a vent. i was just going to put a t-fitting to connect the return line into the suppy line back near the tank...unless thats a bad idea for some reason.

if your primer hand pump is working, you should be able to pump it until the fuel line is filled... except without a return line, there is noplace for the air to go...
