Need New Water Pump ::: Brand?

The 1984 300SD needs a new water pump. There are several brands available, with a range of prices $35- $70. What brand is a good one? What brands should be avoided? Thanks!

I believe the last water pump I used was Graf brand, and have had no issues. Actually, I have purchased several water pumps through the years from PP and have had no issues.....Rich

I bought the Lasso one, it was supposedly the same company that makes the OEM one. The housing did look like it, but the vanes of the pump were slightly fatter, and with slightly less depth. But, I think it will be fine, it fit with no issues at all, but I have not run the engine yet.

I personally prefer Graf.

Last I 'heard' was that Graf is same as Benz dealer pumps.

I tried the other brands before in the C280, did not last. However that might not be due to the brand.

My 300D and now the C280 has Graf.

I too, used Graf when I replaced the water pump on my sister's 190D 2.2. It was a nice unit! It has been in place for about 1.5 years and no issues at all. It was about $50 when we ordered it back then. I think they've gone up in price.

For what it's worth, Laso and Graf are two brands that I have heard and read are best. There may be other good brands, but I'm not aware of them. Of course, Genuine Mercedes will be very good, and may very well be one of these brands.

I had a Laso installed on my car in 2010. I was told that it's made in Germany, and it said that on the package.

You can't go wrong with Laso, Graf or OE MB.

+1

And, (at least a few years ago) some of the dealer supplied pumps were priced very competitively.
