Hi looking into buying a 1982 300sd has 220k on it, setting up a test drive soon and I don't know what I should look for during that and while looking at the car or what questions to ask

*DIESEL POWERED LUXURY!!* 1982 MERCEDES-BENZ 300SD SEDAN! is the ad hopefully that helps He sent me pictures it looks to be in pretty good shape and claims that there is 7 to 8k of new parts into it just don't have a use or space...owner says he is mechanic and owns own shop has owned for last 5-7 years bought off original owner wondering if its a good buy and some advice on what to ask or look for

you will never get 30mpg in that car, but other than that, it's not a bad price. I'd want some pics of the engine, the dash, the odometer (which usually does not work) figure you'll be getting around 25mpg
I like the brown/black leather, the pics SUCK, so I can't tell much from them.

looks like a lot more than 220k based on even that one interior picture, but even then $1900 may be a fair price. says no rust but i would notttttttttttttttttt believe that. go over rust points carefully: floor pans, especially passenger side, jack points, bottoms of the doors.

$7 -$8K in new parts, and selling if for $1900? Looks like a snow job to me.

Check it over real gooood for rust. Check the rear lower corners of the glass for delamination. the glass get milky when moisture gets between the glass. I can rust the defroster wires, and there can be water leakage into the trunk.

I do like the color.

Does the transmission shift correctly?

Does the HVAC system work as it should?

Does the sun roof open okay?

Not a good day for pics, I see.

My SD gets ~29 mpg on diesel.

Price is right, if everything works and there's no rust anywhere.

Go check it out and spend a few hours on two or more visits with the car driving it, and looking it over to see if everything works - including up on a rack to inspect the underside. The seller will then know you're very interested, and you'll also get a feel for the level of quality the car exhibits doing 2 - 3 visits.

With deference to one poster here, this car model will routinely get 30 mpg, or perhaps 1 or 2 more mpg on the highway @ 60 to 65 mph. I drove one to 305K, and it did so for the life of the car under my watch. However, 25 mpg around town is a tad high, from what I recall with the car. 22 mpg to 24 was the norm for me.

The amount of parts put in it should be ignored. It matters not what has been spent on it, what matters is what it will do and what it is. mpg? Maybe if you drive fifty to fifty five steady speed with no stops and starts.

I'll just say that "no rust" in Buffalo has an entirely different meaning than "no rust" in the south.............

you achieve 30mpg or higher in an 82? really? I STRUGGLED to get 30mpg in my 85... with the 2.88 diff... My 82 never got close to 30, but it had a 3.47 rear diff, so I'm sure that makes a difference...

Does the seller mean that this is a complete parts car or does the purchase price include yet another vehicle that is complete and for parts?

"Complete parts car available at this price."

If the latter, parting out that second one could render this a freebie
