You won't believe what I saw this weekend...

OK. So I got a lead on a 240D at a pick in pull in Winston Salem. They said it was blue and had crank windows so I went to get those pre chambers and some blue trim pieces I'm missing.

On the way there I was heading up I-40 Business into downtown Winston Salem, when in front of me a guy driving a car carrier hit the overpass! He had a car on top (brand spanking new or close to it) and it was about 3 feet two high. An EXPLOSION of debris came flying back! Luckily I miss most of it. the guy in the pickup in front of me took most of it. AS I slowly drove under the underpass you could see the roof of said car plastered and stuck to the bridge undergirding. Meanwhile the guy stopped about 1/4 mile down from the bridge. Came running down the road pulling his hair , hitting his head and screaming into cell phone. I assume he was in Trouble.

I went ahead an went to the pull- a part and got my pre chambers (for $1 each I might add!), the interior had a nice passenger seat seat but the back was trashed. The hat tray was good but I have a pristine one so I didn't grab it. The carpets and mats in it where almost like brand new. I may go back and get those.

But as I drove back home to take the wife out for her birthday dinner, DOT was under the bridge trying to pry the hood off the girders and sweeping up what was left of that car all over the road. Damndest thing I have ever seen. Was like something out of a movie!

The bill from the state for the repairs to the Overpass and cleanup will be costly for the carrier or insurance co.

You would think the driver would know the height of his load and be looking at the posted Bridge signs.

Did it look something like this?

You better get the parts off that 240 and don`t diily dally too long, or it will be gone, or someone will trash things before you get back.

I just learned that the 123`s from 77 to 9/79 have thicker window glass.
then from that date thru 85 they went to a thinner window glass. so one won`t work in the other, and the parts the window run in are different. not sure with the window cranks.

I have a buddy that has the early 240D with a broken R/R window. he has been looking for a good glass. most have the metal strip crimped on the bottom of the glass all rusted real bad.

Since you have a 78 and 81-82 you ought to grab the glass if it`s any good. the window cranks are getting to be NLA too. I know there are guys looking for them to swap out their electric regulators.

we get a lot of Mexican families that usually pull a truck with a truck and they are loaded to the hilt going to mexico, sometimes it's a whole house that has been disassembled sometimes it's all house hold goods. anyway you can get a pretty good crosswind on a downhill along this one stretch of road and it can get your trailer wagging pretty hard. this poor old guy was pulling a full sized truck with a full sized truck loaded down and he rolled them both, stuff across all lanes of traffic like compressors, washing machines, stoves, toys.... crazy, i saw the smoke just as i was entering in highway, the guy was sitting in the middle of all the stuff, ejected bleeding but given the circumstances in pretty good shape sitting up, i was the second or third person to stop.

amazing... great price on the prechambers, (I'm guessing you pulled the glow plugs first this time)
I really think we should start following in the footsteps of the Russians, and put in dash cams...

I purchased the previous version of this camera and can't believe the quality of the video.

But so far I haven't caught anything interesting.
