newbe with 240D questions

I am new to this group and would just like to say that you folks have been very helpful since I have gotten into 240Ds less than a year ago. I have been able to search and find many answers to problems that I have had. THANKS.... I have a "79" 240D, 4 spd, 240K and since my daughter fell in love with the car and we were going to get her a car for graduation, I found another 4 spd (78) 240D. And since I needed a parts car I found an 80 4 spd with a bad engine.It has two bad journals on the crank. Anyway I am no master mechanic by a long shot but would like to become better acquainted with these cars as they are really great. So my question would be, actually two questions, (1) The 80 has No oil cooler or AC, the daughters car (78) has no AC but has an oil cooler, my car (79) has AC and an oil cooler, so if I don't wont AC which I don't, can I dispense with the oil cooler and simply plug the inlet & outlet in the oil filter housing after stripping all the AC stuff off ?
BTW my daughter's boyfriend found a beautiful 80 SD in the back of our local car lot that the guy couldn't get running so he offered a K and got it. A new starter solved the problem and he now has a very nice car. This "MB fever" is catching. Thanks again for all the help. I feel it is a very good thing to keep these great cars alive.
