Help finding blower fuse on 1985 300SD

Hi,

I think I have searched through most of the threads about blowers and fuses and haven't come to a sure conclusion yet.

To back up, my blower stopped working suddenly (this whole thing was 3 years ago, which prompted me to but a pickup and the benz was no longer the daily driver - but now I am back to fix it) on my 85 300SD. The blower was a replacement from the previous year because the previous blower had worn out and rattled when it started. The current blower spins freely by hand though I know that is not a reliable test.

So, I am trying to locate the fuse for the blower to see if that is the issue. I have replaced fuses in the fuse box that I think go to the blower, with no luck. Then I was reading about a 30 A strip fuse in a separate box and can't find it (so I am not sure it was on my year model). I did find a junction box of some sort with 2 16 A fuses in there, which I replaced anyway to be sure that wasn't the issue - but these were the regular fuses, not a strip fuse.

In possibly unrelated matters, about two weeks later, my drivers front and passenger rear windows quit working. I changed the motor on the drivers window after I had exhausted other things, but that didn't fix it either.

I am sure these aren't connected, but they happened close together and led me to buy a new air conditioner (in the form of a truck).

So, all this is to say, what kind of fuse am I looking for on the 1985 and where can I find it? (I don't want to keep cracking open brittle plastic boxes for fun)

And second, what is my next diagnostic step?

Thanks,

take a good picture of the fusebox area of your car, then another pic of the entire engine bay on the fusebox side. I bet we can spot your fuse.

if not, post the last 8 of your vin, and I'll compare it to mine, and see if it's the same.

does your hood release with a tongue sticking out of the center, or by pressing levers on each side of the grille?

Thanks for the feedback. That list of threads was one of the resources I dug through but failed to get a definitive answer.'

My hood does open with the tongue thing.

Your starting point is to verify power going to the motor.

All of the control is on the ground side of the circuit.

If you have power = it is a bad motor or control issue.

Hi, here's those digits. I will have to get the photo in a little bit when some sun comes up.

photo detail

By the way, in the second photo (the larger view), the little box in the top middle with a yellow tipped wire feeding in - is the box with two 16A regular fuses in it. Just above it in the photo (toward the fender), are two plugs that aren't fuses are junctions.

Are you thinking there is a link between the debris and my blower/window problem? Or were you just observing the trash and simply addressing the fire hazard?

Thanks again!

Sorry, my mistake, for not completing the thought.

If you get wet mulch built up around the blower resistor, it can enhance corrosion = rot the wires off.

Repairing the blower resistor wires is a MAJOR PIA, because of the location.

I have re-located several damaged units, made a vented galvanized box, soldered extensions, and mounted it behind the left front/driver headlight area.

If I am interpreting the other thread correctly, the resistor is under the master cylinder rather than the battery tray.

Is that correct?
