300D 722.118 Trans In a 1980 300SD
Hello,
After extensive research, I have found that I have a 722.118 (300D, 77-81, 617.912 engine) transmission in my 1980 300SD Turbo Diesel, when it should be a 722.120 (300SD, 78-80, 617.950 engine) will this cause any problems? The tail of the transmission where the speed sensor unit connects into the transmission needs to be replaced (inside of the transmission tail itself). Would it be worth it for me to rebuild the current transmission that is already in there or, should I purchase a 722.120 used transmission and rebuild that one instead? Thank you!

i have the opposite. i have a 722.120 in my 81 300D. theres no problems, but that 722.120 is for the turbos on my N/A. maybe the possibility exists that there would be a problem putting a NA trans behind a turbo motor?

To bad we can't switch! I have not noticed a difference, I have vacuum leaks which I know are causing my minor shifting quirks. Otherwise the trans is solid and seems to handle the turbo well.
Thanks for you response
