wont start, extreamly slow cranking help
84 200sd 127xxx. Recently it decided it didnt want to start... Brand new batterys x3 and have a 150 amp jumper box. Not the battery... Only real symptom I have is that I can hear something under the driver seat clicking when I crank it. When I jump the terminal on the fender it does the same thing... Has anyone experienced this? Yes the starter still turns over but not fast at all

That pretty much leaves the Ground Cables and Positive Wires and Cables and or the Starter itself. The Engine to Chassis Ground Cable is about under your Feet Under the Car. I suppose there could be somthing else that is hooked to that Terminal on the Starter Solenoid where the Battery Cable and other Wires to feed other items. You could remove those other Wires attached to that Terminal and see if things improve. If they improve somthing hooked to those Wires is pulling the Electricity away from the Starter. If you have a Volt Meter put it acrossed the Battery Terminals and see what happens with the Starter is cranked. It should not plunge below 10.5 Volts and something like 11-11.5 volts would be better.

I checked the ground connection that is the giant braided cable from the tranny to the passenger side body and it appears fine. I will get under the driver side and investigate

No loose grounds, voltage is perfect, and does not show a voltage draw just sitting. Could it possible be the starter motor itself?

I'd pull all the grounds and clean them to bare metal on both sides....just because its relatively easy and pulling the starter is a triple b!tch.

Amongst other possibilities, worn brushes will cause a starter to operate in slow motion.

On an older car sometimes it helps to run a ground wire directly to a starter bolt too.

Will report back with findings and any changes after I complete the above mentioned. Is a 6gauge wire big enough just to ground the starter?

Did you find a solution? I am having similar slow crank conditions so am interested in what you found out!
