Help with Neutral Safety Switch pins/wire
 

tell me the purpose of each electrical pin on a neutral safety switch for an '81 240D? AND, which colored wires go to each pin? Engine was removed from car a year ago and the neutral safety switch wiring was not disconnected at the time and the wiring snapped. The actual plug end was then lost out of the switch so all I have now are a few wires dangling down from the tunnel. I thought I had found the info in another thread but it did not lead me to where I needed to be. Now I am here, dependent on the kindness of you guys. Have I told y'all how much I really appreciate y'all? :o

I will provide any help I can as long as you don't use a Title that is written like some stupid sh@# from "Upworthy" or Huffington Post.

Ill look at my car tomorrow. Its a '84 with a 617 so I'm not sure if that helps

The two purple wires are the starter, the other two are backup lights. If you have the round switch plug, the two pins closest to the square key peg are the starter.

If you don't have the plug how are you planning on hooking things up? You can figure out which pins go with which with a multimeter. In the "P" position the starter pins will be closed. Move it a little further and the other two pins will be closed. A little further and the start position will be closed.

I think it might have been the poor choice in title. People on here generally respond to threads with titles that contain relevant information about your question/problems.

A more appropriate title would have been something like "81 240D Neutral Safety Switching pin out?" or something like that.

I just tried to look up the wiring diagram for the 81 240D on the StarTechInfo website that MB has and it looks like that PDF is missing.

The flat plug (Im assuming with a straight row of pins like the later 722.4 gearboxes)

is the simplest. the furthest two pins are the starter and the two pins near the edge where the wiring tube slips onto is the reverse lamp.

I changed it.
