Dipstick tube troubles
 

Well, I thought I would start what should be a fairly easy, straight-forward job this afternoon and ran into a snag. My plan was to replace the o-ring on the dipstick tube to alleviate a couple of oil leaks.

However, I can't seem to get the tube removed. I've remove the small bracket, with grommet, above and pulled upwards on the dipstick tube. Is there something inside the pan that holds it in place? It is close to 3/4" raised from the pan, but still inserted, and doesn't want to go any further. I've tried wrapping a rope and using a pry bar to no avail. Now, I can't seem to push it back down either. What is holding this thing fast?:confused:

I haven't been able to find anything in the FSM that even mentions this area.:(

Sam, the Dip Stick Tube is a press fit into the block. I do not believe there is a "O" Ring, there may be a sealant that is applied to seal it.
There is a special tool that drives the tube into the block.

Iam not sure how to get it out, unless you remove the lower pan and tap it out from below.

The only Oring on the dipstick/tube is on the stick itself. I can't imagine that the actual tube is leaking, unless it has been damaged in some way.

OK, I was under the impression that it was similar to the turbo drain and drain from the air cleaner. My bad.

I think I can drive it back down and seal it. There really isn't much holding it in place. (However, I think a crowsfoot on a breaker bar should be sufficient, rather than the pricey "special" tool.)
