SOS overheating 96 e300

I'm sitting here in my car. Overheated. Coolant is flowing out back of the under panel. What causes this one to overheat? Thermostat and water pump? I noticed it tended to run a bit warmer than my 300d. This is ridiculous. Guessing I'll have to have him towed and work on him this weekend

It might help to pop the hood and take a look.

I did. Didn't see a whole lot. Have to see the coolant system diagram to figure out the weak points

Once you get under it, if you see water dripping from what appears to be the alternator mount bracket area, then it's your water pump. Just replaced mine at about 410K....

from where it is dripping it almost has to be the radiator or the water pump. I'm thinking of just renewing the radiator, water pump, themostat and hoses. If I get the nissens radiator I could keep the total bill under 500 for parts and zerex. At 175000 all are probably due to be replaced. The aux fan was running very strong when overheating but I want to make sure it is blowing the correct direction. I probably will test the fan clutch as well or maybe I should just go ahead and renew it also

The cooling system is pretty much 90% similar to the old diesels except for a hose or two more on this engine.

The water pump etc is the same as the old 60x engines.

Yes. I downloaded a pdf of the cooling circuit. Its very simple but a good cooling circuit usually is.
