Oil Pouring from Engine underneath

Changed my oil today in my 82 300TD. Replaced filter and plugged after draining the oil..All business as usual, and I thought the job was done.

Five blocks from my house when driving I noticed I had no oil pressure. I pulled over to check under the car and that the oil drain plug was still in place. Plug was in but between the transmission and the oil pan the engine was hemorrhaging oil. I think maybe some sort of rubber stopper/plug came out, but cant find out what the part is. I put my finger in the leak and their isnt any threading so I'm assuming its some sort of grommet, but can't find anything online. The hole is about 1/2" wide and I can feel a pin running horizontally to the ground shallow when i place my finger in.

Any help would be appreciated...ug.

With out pictures it is hard for us to say, the area you are describing should have no plugs in it as it is the upper oil pan..

You sure it is'nt leaking down the back side of the filter cover and is mimicking a leak in the ribbing of the upper oil pan. The ribbing... cast in the upper aluminum pan has finger sized squares and triangles cast in. Did you remember to put the o-ring in for the filter tower cap? Is it seated properly? As mentioned, there is'nt anything with a grommet in the place you've described. How is the lighting where you at? Could you shine around the filter tower with a flashlight...if you have'nt already?

+2 on oil filter cap o-ring

The oil filter housing is pressurized and will leak like a sieve with a bad o-ring in the cap.

Bad O-ring or vacuum line stuck under the oil filter cap.

If you were driving and noticed no oil pressure you'd better hope the engine survived They do NOT take well to that....

I was hoping his description of 5 blocks and low speed might have saved him.

I screwed up seating that o ring once. It was like a Vesuvius of oil. Fortunately I had the hood up and was watching the filter canister just in case
