OM617 Injector Socket

I'm wanting to rebuild the injectors in some of my cars, and I did some searching and found that some people remove their injectors with a standard 27mm deep 1/2" drive socket. I went to Lowe's and grabbed one and it wouldn't fit far enough down to engage the injector body...I looked at the inside of the socket and I can tell that the return line nipples are hitting the inside ridge where the socket wall begins to thicken. I hope I'm describing what's happening well enough, but even if not, if some of you who have done this could post the brand of socket you used so I can hunt one down as the Kobalt one I have isn't going to cut it.

Thanks,
Brandon

X2. I have used it literally 1,000's of times to take apart injectors. 1 1/16" deep well, Craftsman or Northern Tool. 6 or 12 point doesnt matter. Never an issue.

(I've also had good luck with quality 27mm's (Craftsman, etc.) that the walls were thin and long enough on.)

I used the one mentioned in another thread, which can be found by searching eBay for a 27mm injector socket. It worked great.

Of course I then immediately ran into other issues, so make sure you know what you're doing before taking the injectors apart.

Greazer is the resident BOSS of injector service. Probably easier for most folks to use his service than go through the effort of acquiring the tools and learning the ins and outs of injector work.

You will still need the socket to remove the injectors yourself.

Agreed completely. He's not only good at what he does but he's a good person.

Could you tell me what type of driving you do to get 34 mpg in a 220d over many fuel tanks? That is awesome, but makes me a little envious. Thanks.
