Need help with a part name.

so there are 4 bolts that hold the transmission crossmember to the frame on my 82 300d. One of the bolts just spins. its not striped ..the piece that the bolts goes into nut is spinning. what are these fasteners named? i need to buy a couple.

Mercedes calls it a "nut retainer".

Part # 1239901291

EPC is your friend!

New they are $14 MSRP from the dealer.

We always called them "weld nuts" (the nut is welded to the J-clip) but I don't know if that's an official term. Most hardwares will have a stock of them in the little fastener drawers though you may have to go with English threads - my hardware doesn't have 'em in metric.

The proper terminology is "extruded U nuts".

Bob. Or maybe "Robert" would be the "proper" name.

(Everyone's a comedian)
