300SD transmission cooler lines: Trucktec?

I know trucktec is generally a product to stay away from but are they okay in this instance? I have heard good things about their oil cooler lines for the OM617 (only aftermarket that fits apparently) and I see Pelican offers them for $12 each, qualifying for free shipping (at $75), vs $40 each for OEM w/o free shipping) but I wouldn't know if they are worth trying. The ones on my brother's 300SD are severely cracked, which is why I am looking for them.

With all due regard to the forum sponsor, making people choose between OEM and a third-line supplier is not a good approach.

Suggestions:

1 - To be fair, call Pelican and ask if there are other makes available. Not everything is listed in the online catalogue.

2 - doing a search at EverythingBenz - Mercedes-Benz Forum and Web Search Using Google will provide you with at least two alternatives for better brands between $10 and $17 each from more reputable suppliers.

A single supplier just can't offer every level of every part, you are asking too much. PP isn't forcing anyone to make a dramatic choice, those that want OE parts will go for factory.

In any event, a few days ago I ordered Trucktec lines for my C280. At $ 13 and $ 14 for each hose assembly they are priced right. ( I'd run if they were $ 5 )

Actually, from my memory of the PR spin posted on this forum when Pelican bought out Peach, I seem to recall a promise to offer OEM and quality alternatives to OEM.

So no, actually I am NOT asking too much, and I don't see where I asked them to offer every supplier for every part.

When I make a suggestion here it is to assist people as best I can. Pelican is responsible for Pelican's bottom line, not me.

I fail to see how a Trucktec (reboxer) part at $12 is a better value than the CRP-ContiTech at slightly less from a competitor.

Just looked at another Seller and it has for a 1980 300SD CRP-Contitech Auto Trans Oil Cooler Hose; Straight Fittings with Spring Guard; 8.5 Inch Length $11 each with the same >$75 free shipping. That seems a better deal then the Trucktech.
But, shop around.

If you are going to go cheap the Local Auto Parts like Atozone or the like can come up with someting of simlar to Trucktec quality for the Transmission Oil Cooler Hoses.

You might pay more Per Hose at NAPA but the quality might be better and you do not need to pay shipping.

Speaking strictly of business there is a lot of Customers out there that are going to purchase by Price only and hope for the best.

If a Parts Seller sells only the best quality but more expensive Parts they would lose those Customers that don't want to pay for the High Quality Parts so they need to offer both to stay in business.

Also except for Customer feed back the Part Sellers have no way to evaluate the quality of all of the Aftermarket Wholesale Part Suppliers Parts. They all say the meet or exceed the stock Manufacturers Specs.

I understand the idea that Labor is cheaper in other Countries but I don't see why poor quality has to go a long with the cheap Labor.

I installed the Trucktec hoses today. They have green anti rust coating on the fittings and guard spring. The guard spring is made just like factory where the ends have closer coils so the cover does not slide off.

Hoses are marked CONTI 9 x 3 >AEM/AEM< 44/11/41 4259

>AEM/AEK< 39/13-11 2621 CONTI 9 X 3

The ends are marked Made in Germany, threads and flares are made as good as the OE hoses I removed. Hose material is spiral wrapped just like original. I call the Trucktec hoses just as good as OE MB.

As for the Veyance brand PP sells, have a look here:

ContiTech to double hose, belt unit with Veyance acquisition - News - RubberNews.com - Where the rubber industry gets its news first

Continental A.G., ContiTech's parent, opened the door to that possibility when it announced Feb. 10 that it had agreed to buy major competitor Veyance Technologies Inc. from the Carlyle Group, a private equity firm, for about $1.91 billion.

Once the deal is closed, Wente said ContiTech only will be able to keep the Goodyear Engineered Products brand name for a limited time. Veyance, which was called Goodyear Engineered Products while it was under Goodyear's wing, has used the name under a licensing agreement it has had with Goodyear since Carlyle bought the business.

I've used their cooler lines with no ill effects. I've also cut the crimp ring off old hoses, bought bulk transmission cooler hose, and a pair of clamps and made my own cooler lines if you're in a pinch to get a car back on the road.

What type of clamps would you recommend for that? That would be a nice way to save some cash, these old lines (probably original) don't even have the springs on them so I don't think not having the springs will be much to worry about.

sounds like trucktec might be reboxing the continental product. the only experience i have with trucktec is the hood release handle. i'm not even sure how many products they make and why they have a bad reputation.

I wasn't suggesting they have a bad reputation. I was pointing out that they are another reboxer, which I consider a third-line source of any part. My point was simply, why go with a reboxer when the ContiTech product is available at the same price (less actually in this case)?

I first saw the name a couple of years ago on eBay listings and asked around. I was told Trucktec is well known in europe and is now trying to raise its profile in North America. It isn't a junk brand, but it isn't highly regarded either.

I would not dismiss all Trucktec products out of hand, just as I don't actually dismiss all URO parts that way. However, given a reasonable choice, I will go with a known OE supplier or quality aftermarket if I can.

Just generic worm clamps.
