AC return hose

Has anyone replaced the larger diameter AC return hose that comes out from under the battery tray? Mine sprung a leak and I can't find it in any catalogs.

Does it go through the firewall all the way to the evaporator?

Any info would be helpful.

Thanks!

It is number 56 in this diagram. I can find it for up to '81 models, which is P/N 1238305715.

I guess I'll have to pull it out and have one made?

I had to have my liquid lines rebuilt on my 300SD. You might be able to find a local shop that can crimp new hose on the ends. I'm assuming it is the hose leaking; not a bad O-ring at one of the connections.

Yeah, the leak is right in the middle of the hose.

So I take the battery and tray out to get it through the firewall?

There is a hose you can buy, keep looking at that 56 part item, and you'll find it on various trims of the W123. There are about 4 different part numbers that apply to that item. For some reason, the EPC doesn't indicate well, what part number is superseded by another, if it is compatible or not. I had a very helpful parts person, work it out, and we ordered that same hose for $45. It is being shipped, and I should have it next Monday, I'll add here again if it fits.

On the model you've selected here on the EPC that is indeed the hose, but as you found out, selecting that part, gives you are note "this part does not apply to this model car"...I was getting so frustrated seeing that, I'd look at the hose, look at the one in my car, and mentally argue with the EPC "it damn well does apply, now give me the freaking part number"
