EGR Tube??

I have this strange tube on my euro, runs for the intake to the exhaust...Wonder what the purpose of it is?

Figuring if its sort of a federal emission thing that was done back in the day....if I should pinch it off?

Most of us have already blocked off this ERG or exhaust gas recirculating as this is the primary cause of coking or lining the intake stream with a thick black sticky mess. Just look up Erg delete there have been lots of information on this subject.

You could pinch it off or install plugs and remove the line to give you more space. It is not a necessary device and causes more problems than not.

That is a Prehistoric EGR system. Never seen one like that.

X2, remove it and screw in some pipe plugs.

Cool, my assumptions were right I will get it off and figure out a way to plug it off....looks like I may be able to just, cut the tube, unscrew it and use some change to create a cap. It explains the black sludge in my intake...

Looks like the exhaust port would be a perfect place to install an EGT probe.

Well it's gone now! I sawed the tube in half, slide it out and filed two dimes down a hair and made the perfect plug.

The car is actually, turning over faster, and idling better! Wondering if this was causing my smoke issue from the fuel. Being in high altitude, there is less oxygen, and then with the intake sucking in exhaust.....I have even less oxygen to mix with the fuel.
