Diesel Pop Tester Question
I have built a pop tester, and the only thing that is missing is the line that goes to the injector itself. I have tried calling and going to wrecking yards and have had no luck. They tell me that they don't have any Mercedes or that they have no lines. I have tried to explain to them that it is for a tester and not for a car. I think that the injector threads are 12m 1.5.
I am looking for some suggestions as to where I can get a small injector line, or if anybody has a spare line that they would be willing to sell me. I am not sure if the injector threads are standard for Mercedes. It seems like all the threads on the subject of the builders already had the line. |

I bought a used Diesel Kiki pop tester that didn't have a line. It's tester output is 14mm, the injector is 12mm.
Here is what I bought High Pressure Fuel Line 2X6, 5-7/8" M14/12 Item# RNTFL6-M14/12 31.80 with shipping. Can also get them on e-bay for about 20 bucks but may take a little longer to get in as many are from india. from rocken-tech.com found them from a member on this site. Hope this helps. Mike |

Definitely don't try to fab a tube from scratch. It is special thick-wall tube. Not only could a wrong tube fail, the extra volume of a large ID could make the pump & injector not work correctly. There were ~8 W123 300D's in PickNPull's around Sacramento last time I went scrounging. I grabbed a shorter tube for my pop tester last time, and they charged me $1 since I bought a bunch of stuff. Take a trip to SoCal and you will be in M-B junkyard heaven.

Older vw diesel lines will work maybe easier to find in the junk yards

VW works, I've used old allis chalmers line too. Anything with an injection pump and metric threads, so pretty much any diesel in the 80s. Go to the JY and try some ferds if they have any.

Diesel Pop Tester
Here are two pictures of my incomplete project. I need to ad a fuel filter and secure the plastic tube to a piece of wood. I also need to ad a fuel line and a bottle to put the injector in.

Diesel Pop Tester
the picture is a close-up, but the top of the 2" plastic pipe is identical to the bottom. I just put a plastic cap end on the top. I will post a better picture once I have finished it.

Here is a better picture from a pop tester where I got the idea of using the pvc tubing. I like the plastic pipe because it is very difficult to break it and I like the looks of it. Mine is a lot longer, and I may end up cutting it much shorter like this one. I am just not sure how much diesel is used with the pop testing.

I did ~10 injectors in one session, repeating each ~3 strokes and again after taking some apart for shimming. I expect I get more volume each stroke from my Porta-Power type cylinder than you would. I used ~1 qt of diesel. BTW, I do it outside on a concrete patio, so no need to use a test fluid for safety. I collected what didn't drift away and poured it in my car.

Yes, I thought about using a porta power type hydraulic pump but they are real expensive. The cheapest I could find was around $50 and the nice ones go way over $100. I could easily get into the $200 range to build a nice tester. I see a lot of pop testers in the market for under $200, and they have a warranty. There is a bit of danger and risk when trying to build something that handles pressures in excess of 2,000 psi.
I also figure that I may only use it once since I only have one diesel car. If I was going to use it all the time, then I would go with the more expensive durable type pump. |
