1 Quart of Veg Oil in 20 Gallons Diesel ??
I found a rancid quart of vegetable oil in my camper.
Since I don't want to cook with it would it be ok to burn it in the 1983 300SD, mixed with a full tank of diesel?

Do the math.
A quart of diesel cost $1.00. Would anything go wrong. Probably not. Can I guarantee nothing will go wrong. No. Is it worth a $1.00 to find out?

I've done it, it was fine. Vegetable oil (AKA soybean oil) has very good lubricity property. Some people use it instead of TCW3 in diesels.

Yeah, you can do that. No biggie. Virgin veggie oil burns well when diluted by D2.
I actually ran almost straight veggie in my '85 recently. The tank was very low on D2. Wanted to make a few stops before hitting the gas station. Decided to give it a whirl, and I poured in a gallon of veggie oil. Ran great. I was amazed at how quiet the injectors got. I thought the engine had quit on me when I pulled up to the first stop light after leaving my house. Some real good lubricity.

you don't how much water and other crap is in it, WVO is normally filtered, heated if there is any question of water and settled.

This is virgin oil, and it is 1 qt. That's approx an 80/1 ratio of diesel to veggie oil. Any water that may happen to be in 1qt of old virgin veggie oil will separate in the spin on filter.

For the purists, a big fat NO. If it was me, I do it in a heartbeat.

This seems to be a very emotional topic.
It makes for an interesting thread.

you might need to put some biocide in the oil because it can leave a few million algae here or there. Why not just heat it to 250 degrees for 10 minutes, filter it, then use it?

I know its a lot of effort, but you can always just toss it in the trash...
If you afraid of the eco terrorist finding in your garbage, wrap it in a paper bag and secretly bury it in the back yard at 3am

pour it in your tank and forget about it.
i almost ran out of fuel today looking for an open diesel station, and bought 2 gallons of vegetable oil at a supermarket as insurance since i managed to find one of those in search for diesel. finally found a diesel pump and fired the 2 gallons of oil in to get rid of them. the 9th circle of hell did not swallow me, and freddy kruger didnt come to slash me to ribbons. this versatility is exactly why these cars kick a$$

Clean virgin oil straight from the bottle will be nothing but absolutely ok to burn as fuel.

http://www.biodiesel.org/reports/19980201_gen-070.pdf All biocides on the market are 85% diethylene glycol methyl ether aka Carbitol, a solvent commonly found in paint, wood stains and household cleaners. Any pure alcohol in small quantities will kill algae without affecting the quality of the fuel. I've had my tank open when working on the fuel level sender and there was perfectly clean metal all around.
