fuel injection pump from turbo to non turbo OM606???
I am finding it hard to get a non turbo fuel injection pump for my 1997 Diesel Mercedes with the OM606 engine. I was thinking of getting the turbo model Fuel Injection Pump, and possibly adding a turbo later. I read somewhere online that my engine can handle up to 300hp without modifications (I know it will probably make the engine not last as long). I mainly need to know if I can get the turbo model Fuel Injection Pump, I know it puts out more diesel and I read that will possibly make my engine smoke. If anyone has any recommendations with knowledge of this subject, please let me know. Thanks in Advance!

The pump from a turbo car should be a direct fit on your '97. I believe the NA cars have 5.5mm elements and the turbo's have 6mm.
It'll give you a little performance bump but it'll be kind of smokey since there's no turbo to balance the extra fuel. By the way, what makes you think you need a new injection pump?

reply to thread
I was changing my o-rings and I didn't have a torque wrench so I overtightened the valves and cracked the block because it's aluminum. I tried to jb weld it but the jb weld didn't hold; I thought about welding it but I could run into problems with leaking inside the pump -inner crack. So I'm on ebay... there's a non turbo pump for 450 and a turbo pump for 150 that's in better condition. I wonder if my fuel mileage would suffer from 30 mpg, but at this point I'm not sure I care, as long as it runs lol. Hopefully the black smoke won't be too much. I was worried that the extra heat (what I read online) from the extra diesel burning would add damage to the internal engine.

Ok I think you're right and I will buy a pump from a turbo model. I will update on what has happened. This forum has helped me a.l.o.t. and I want to contribute back. If anyone else has any input please let me know; I think I have made my decision on going ahead and buying the one from the turbo model. If anyone has any information about adding a turbo to a non turbo model please let me know! I've never done it but I do know that I cannot add a big turbo or a lot of boost because my engine was not designed for a turbo. After this engine goes out I plan on purchasing an engine from a turbo model. Thanks again in advance!

Changing the pump is fairly straightforward. Two things to remember, the bolt on the chain sprocket is a left hand thread and you'll need the locking tool to hold the pump cam in place for the swap.
You have to install the tool AFTER you rotate the engine to the proper location where you can see the indicator tab in the window of the pump.

Thank you for that last post. I have already removed the Fuel Pump. I propt the gear with rags to keep it from falling when removing. I took a bolt and grinded a slot in it to put in the hole that I removed a bolt from that holds the timing gear in place. I bought a new fuel pump a few days ago and will be receiving it in a few days (from the turbo model). I'm sure the timing will be off but I will rotate it until I get the metal thing in the slot and install it in my car. Hopefully the rags (put there 2 months ago) are still holding the timing sprocket in place! lol fun stuff

If you haven't already done so, turn the engine clockwise (only) until the timing indicator is at 15 deg. ATDC. Install the injection pump locking tool on the pump and then install the pump on the engine.
Now, the problem is you can't turn the engine when the pump is out of it so this may create extra work as you'll have to reinstall on of the pumps.
