doesn't want to shift from 3rd to 4th

at normal throttle it will go thru the gears to 3rd but won't go to 4th EXCEPT when I let of the pedal slightly, about a 1/4 inch then it shifts smoothly. am I looking at a vac prob or mechanical?

One thing that is worth checking is the kickdown switch. Unplug it, take it for a spin and report back to me. Start with small things first.

if it takes a lift, to shift, it's likely the kickdown switch, but it could be bowden adjustment.
try adjusting the bowden to it's loosest spot.

Kickdown Switch is behind the acceleration pedal.

Here's the Bowden Cable in the IMG below.

I'm also going to link you to the factory service manual, as I think this may benefit you in the long term including these adjustments. OM602 Service Manual.

After I check the switch which way should I adjust it? That may be it since I had to disconnect it to work on the injectors

Disconnect it and take it for a drive. If you still have the problem, it's something else.

I vote Bowden. There's a spin nut on the Bowden cable that you can turn by hand.. Where the cable is mounted to its bracket, engine side, not tranny side. Adjustments done with hood up, not back on the ground.

Try several turns in one direction, drive it, if not better, twice as many turns in the opposite direction. Repeat as necessary or until you run out of nut adjustment space. No change? Put it back to where you started. Note the starting amount of thread adjustment space on the thingy before you start.
