Met a guy and his Euro 300D

Talked to him for a while, and asked if he did his own maintenance. He said he hasn't had to do anything in the last 10 years.. Not sure if he's had valve adjustments done or not. Only 100k miles on the car, with a working odo. He bought it with 50k back then, and doesn't drive a long distance to work. It's got a 4 speed manual, and the motor is super clean. Loved the car. Ascot grey over blue cloth. Unfortunately, a cracked blue dash. He's not a member, and I forgot to mention the site to him. He was asking about an oil leak onto the brake pedal, told him it was more than likely the oil pressure gauge. I've seen the car for a while, and finally got a chance to talk. Good times.

The leak could also be from a ruptured shutdown diaphragm... But if the car shuts down well the log is more likely.

Car shuts down fine. It's not much, a couple drops per day. He wanted my card, had to tell him I don't live in San Diego.

You know he's not a member but forgot to mention the site...

You seen the car, for a while, but you don't live near it?

There's gotta be more to the story!

Horsehockey.

Even if he drove it 50 miles a year, something would deteriorate in that time.

When I get guys saying stuff like that to me, depending on their attitude, I either just excuse myself from the conversation or (if they seem like regular people) I inquire a bit further. This is because when I tried being in car clubs, there was an inevitable small bunch of guys who would stand there and tell you that nothing ever went wrong with their car. (For some reason, the Volvo crowd is most prone to those.)

To be fair, some people don't regard regular maintenance as "doing anything" to the car. When you press further, you find out they do oil changes, belts, brakes, etc., just they regard that as inevitable maintenance and not "repairs".
