Diesel Lemons car

Hello all

Really quick question...

Would it be easier to swap a turbo motor into a 240d-4 speed or swap a 4 speed into a turbo mercedes? I know a turbo 617 into a 240d-4 speed would be cheaper... What bits would have to go into the 240d to handle the 300 turbo motor? Radiator is a must but I am sure there is other stuff.

Thanks.

4 spd into a turbo car is much easier IMO. To put a 617 turbo in a car that had a 4 cyl and 4 spd, you would need all the turbo stuff (radiator, expansion tank and hoses, GP relay and wiring, exhaust system etc) from a donor, and the shift rods and trans mount would still need to be modified. All things considered, the 4 spd in a turbo car is a lot less work.

We already have a 240d and a turbo motor... We would have to go buy a 300D if we wanted to swap the tranny into a 300.

Don't forget the differential. The differential in the 240D is a 3.69:1; the diff in a 300D turbo is a 3.07:1. Big difference.

Oh wait, this is a LeMons car? Just keep the 240D diff, then. I assume that you don't need to have a real exhaust system?

It would have been nice to have that info at the time you asked the original question. That makes the original question irrelevant since you already have the 240 and the 617T.

Well it is actually not all that important, 300D's are a dime a dozen... My question had nothing to do with the fact that I already have a 240.

But thank you for the help.

And I will be keeping the low geared diff from the 240, I need blinding starts off the line at Lemons lolol

I'll take a dozen too...

Why not just keep the 240D engine? If this is a lemons car, just gut the hell out of the car, and lose the weight.....cut and drill too....

I could keep the 240 engine but why? I have a turbo 617 laying around... The car will go pretty well with 120 horsepower and that 3.46 rear end!

3.69:1 4speed with the turbo motor. 1st gear is going to be brief.

Because of all the extra cash, you will need to spend to get all the correct accessories to hook up the turbo....plus you need to change the front springs on the car....if not the front end will be scrapping because of the extra weight...
