617 IP removal

i decided to repaint the engine because the original paint is pealing off and some rust started to show.
The manifold side is easy but i'm trying to decide if i wanna get the injection pump off to get better access, remove the old paint completely and paint it real nice.
How big of a job removing and reinstalling the IP is. Do you guys think it's worth it?

Year and Model would be helpful.

I am not going to go into details as that is in the Repair Links.

In the Mercedes Service Manual it has that you should remove the Oil Filter Housing; if it is a Turbo Diesel.

You can remove and Install the Fuel Injection Pump without removing the Oil Filter Housing; but, suggestion is that if you have even the slightest leak between your Oil Filter Housing and the Block you go a head change that Gasket when you Paint the Engine.

Besure to remove the Fuel Injection Pump with the Piston coming up on the Compression Stroke on the #1 Cylinder and do not crank the Engine for any reason till the Fuel Injection Pump is back on.

Depending on the Year of your Fuel Injection Pump there is a Timing/Locking Pin to lock the Fuel Injection Pump Camshaft in position. There is some for Rent in the Tool Rental Section of the Repair Links. Or yo can just do it by lining up the marks.

Removing the IP is a real pain, not to mention re installing...the rear support bracket, re timing, not something I would even consider to make it easier to paint the engine.
