Interesting

I was just musing on the different tastes in automobiles of my youth compared to someone like Larry Bible. I favored little nimble four cylinder cars like a bugeye sprite, Larry had a t bucket with a big snorting v8. And yet we crossed paths in our 123 Mercedes diesels.

Skid too. I don't have any idea what he started out in but he is into the mb diesel too.

I won't even touch our different political views.

Me too Tom. I started big in Hudsons. Had a 51 and 52 Hornet sedan, then a gorgeous 53 Hornet Coupe for which I paid $550.00 in 1956 . Then I passed on a 54 Hornet because even though being tall, I couldn't see over the hood of that machine. So Then a 55 Hornet Hollywood and then a gorgeous 56 Packard Clipper Custom for which I paid $650.00 in 1959. Now we are both into old but nice Mercedes Benz. I did have a friend in Milwaukee whose parents were getting him a new car for Christmas. He was drooling and dreaming about it. Just before Christmas his parents brought it up from Chicago - A brand new Mercedes Benz Gull Wing Coupe 300. Jack couldn't believe it and didn't like it, he so wanted a Coupe DeVille Cadillac. I do believe his parents took it back and bought him the Cadillac. I did get to drive that Gull Wing Coupe a couple of times. Hey we were just kids and didn't have much of a grasp on real value.

My first car was a 63 Chevy II Nova wagon with an automatic, six cylinder and added, under dash air. I did not get to pick it out but was glad it had air. Got a new 74 BMW 2002tii when I turned 18 back around '75. This was the first car that I got to pick out. From there on it was Isuzus, Toyotas and Hondas for the most part which I maintained myself. Picked up first MB in '99 in the form of a '95 E320 I bought from the local dealer. Found Mercedesshop.com and y'all know the rest of the story.

I have had all sides covered from my first 66 Mustang (rag top no bottom) 2nd Mazda w/ Wankel 3rd Ford LTD then hobby cars several 55 Chevys SBC and BBC's then daily drivers everything in between. That is an interesting thought though how we wound up into MB's, newer or older ones in particular.

Hmm...

My first car I bought was a 72 Toyota celica I found in a customers driveway for $50 that didn't run, needed a gas tank badly, cause it seeped fuel into the trunk ALL THE TIME (glad I don't smoke!) I was given a VW beetle for graduating hs, a 65 Herbie clone... Hurricane Hugo crushed that car... My dad hauled away for scrap my celica, and I never wanted that to happen again... Oops. I got into astro vans there for a while, then I was given an SD... I never looked back

My 1st car that ran was a 65 Mustang. Trans went out on a trip to FL. I got a job making pizzas to get the $75 to buy a trans.

GF got pissed, called mama & took a plane back to Chicago. I should have noted her actions as an indicator. We got married. She got pissed & took off.

I miss that car.

I needed a BIG, dependable work car, so I saved-up for 2 years and bought a new Cadillac Sedan DeVille in 1974. Pic below. That was my first car. I'm not ashamed to state that I paid cash for it. Listed for $8,600 / paid $7,100 out-the-door for it. I made a living with my car, so it was imperative that it be new to be dependable.

I hardly even use my car the past 11-years. I like used MB diesels very, very much - but might buy a used Corvette C7 manual shift coupe one of these days just to play around with as a 2nd car.

The W126 300SD to my way of thinking was the best car ever made for me.

I should have never sold it, and bought a new '99 E300 to replace the SD pictured below.

Picture was taken in 1991 when I bought it. It had only 93K on it. I drove it to 305K the next 8-years.

Best car I'll (probably) ever own......

My experience with Hudsons was a little different.
I was a Kid playing in the Street when I should not have been and hit by a Hudson.
I still have the indentation on My Hip where the Bumper separated some Muscles inside.

My first Car was a 1954 Cadillac 4 Door that needed Rings but had a good Body and Interior bought for $125 saved from Summer Jobs. Car bought because it was available and cheap.
My next purchase was a 1953 Chevy Pick Up Truck that i stll have (though in sad shape). That is what got driven the Most.

My uncle had a Hudson of that era. In the eighties I had about six Caddies from 50 thru 53. I still have some parts for them. I sell some off from time to time.

Over here we have different choices.
Forgetting all the off road only kids toys before being legal on the road, I started out with a Wolseley 24/80, then had my grand fathers Rover 75, then a Nissan ~ restored it from a wreak , ex Nissian works sports race car, was never supposed to be road registered but I was young & silly & the rules back then were easy to get around. Then I had work cars for a number of years including while working away from Australia. Got a Jeep Combat for a toy for a while & a 900SS Ducati ( still have it in the shed). Got my first 300D in 81 (80 model) with ~ 10k on the clock. Still have it as a parts car. Got the 84 for next to nix, it still gets driven, then the 250 TD, now the diesel Jeep Cherokee & have another one sitting in the shed for when I break it. Several other cars here as well like an old Nissan pickup with a Isuzu diesel conversion & a ford truck with a 6/354 conversion. Brother drives a C280 & mom a E190.

I started with an '85 300D turbo and have pretty
Much stuck to diesels. The E320 cabrio was fun and now the MINI is fun as well. I find myself looking at other cars to play with like an old Chevy C10 or getting another Delorean. I'm very tempted to actually
Go out a a build a Locost 7. I think it would cool. Live axel rear, 16 valve engine running independent throttle bodies and a 5 speed.
