memory seat switch
is it possible to gain seat position memory function just by swapping the door switch from one without it to one with it?

Not on your car.
The 2nd gen 124 non memory seats are just simple reversing switches that send direct battery power to the motors. Memory seat switch on 2nd gen 124 uses a group of resistors to multiplex the various switch commands onto a few wires. In order to upgrade to memory seat you will need to grab the following at the yard: Seat base with motors (your motors do not have position sensors, so they can't remember where to go back to) Headrest motor (need the sensor from that too) Column adjuster motor (need the sensor in that motor too) and its switch Control box under the seat Wiring harness complete to the door and steering column Door switch Power wiring back to the main fuse box power seat relay I would download the wiring diagram book for the 124 and compare the two systems.
