i have a loud sound coming from my trunk area when im turning, sounds like a large object slamming around in my trunk... my fuel gauge doesnt work, im guessing the fuel sending unit has broke off or something... any experience with this?... and if so how do i remedy the prob, i dont see any access... is there a space between the body of the car and where the tank is mated to it?

Actually it could be something entirely different. You should probably check the condition of the rear axle U-joints. The boots might be cracked and or leaking. Early on they seem to act up, especially when turning; before they finally just make banging noises all of the time. It has been such a long time since I changed out one of those on the 220D that I can't vouch for availability. On the 300D I was able to use a good one from our parts car.

Rear axle u-joints: More commonly known as CV joints. When they go bad they make a sound just like you described. Usually the rubber boots on the joints will have been bad far a while before the noise starts. I suggest you get under there and have a look.

the sound is only when i go around a turn... would that still coinicide with the u joint?
