O.E.M. brand parts

Is this just another name for URO? I can't locate any W123 Flex Disks that are not one of these brands

Amazon.com: Lemforder Drive Shaft Flex Joint: Automotive

If you look in the Pelican catalogue, they feature the "OEM" brand but at lower left in a sidebar they list other makes available (Meyle, Febi, or Mercedes OE). Meyle isn't hugely appealing, based on what I have heard. Febi has a bad rep on this forum but a friend who worked in a euro part shop said he didn't see complaints from the shops that they supplied Febi stuff to.

There was a previous thread either here or on the other list asking about OEM and no one seems to know much about them.

When looking for any part now I try the www.everythingbenz.com specialized search engine first. Not completely accurate but they have helped me out in the past.

Oem brand is garbage... o.e.m. parts (several brands qualify as such) always list the brand with oem as a qualifying feature. .. for instance, flex disks oem brand is lemforder. .. it's all I would use.

I'll have to look on my computer tomorrow. It's nearly impossible to navigate the pelican catalog on an iPhone.

Per this website, when "O.E.M." is listed as the brand it is the OEM manufacturer but the deal that has been negotiated for price between the manufacturer and the distributor prohibits Pelican or other sites from listing the name of the brand. This happens all the time in retail. In the tech world, these are often called white box parts.

To confirm this, here was the quote from the Pelican catalog at the time of my order:

Quote:
When it states that this part is an O.E.M. brand, it means that it was sourced from a manufacturer that was an original equipment supplier to the manufacturer. On a 30-40 year old car, it is likely that the small manufacturer in Germany who produces these parts sells these to our German distributor *and* also supplies the auto manufacturer's stock as well. This is how it is with a tremendous amount of these older, small production parts produced by small manufacturers in Germany. Since this particular part is sourced through a distribution network within Germany, it is sold in packaging that is not branded with the manufacturer's name, but is the same quality level as the part sold directly through the dealer network.
I ordered "O.E.M." brand flex discs from Pelican and found the result to be somewhat contrary to the description - they were boxed and branded- when I received these:

On the other hand, I also ordered "O.E.M." centering bushings for each end of the driveshaft. They arrived unlabeled in a plastic bag. However, they are definitely not URO which was the only other alternative. Considering my experience with the flex discs I believe that I received the proper OEM part, just "white boxed" as it were.

OEM can mean what it really means.. Original Equipment Manufacturer.. OR URO equivalent Chinese crap. It just depends on who is selling it.

That is excellent news. I was hoping for Lemfoeder.

Are you sure? I'm pretty sure the OEM for guibos/flexdiscs is Jurid.

every lemforder disc I've opened has the MB star ground off...
also, OE does not mean it's the ONLY OE... several parts get made by multiple suppliers.

Yeah, could be that Jurid manufactures the discs and Lemforder boxes them for sale under their label.

Similar to how Phoenix manufactures the turbo OM617 engine mounts for Mercedes, and Lemforder boxes them under their label as well.

So Lemforder is the high-quality version of Febi

That could be because if the Part Fails a Year later the Shop gets to make more Money by Changing the same Part again.

A Shop is going to complain when a Part fails immedieatly because they would need to redo it at a possible loss of on the Labor Cost. If the Vehicle makes it out of the Shops Door and gets some use the Shop installed the Part corrrectly is not responsible if it fails

No Phoenix makes the Lemforder Motor Mounts (for 617.952s) and the Dealer uses Phoenix Mounts and sells the for like $155 each.
