VCV actuator rod

The plastic clip that holds the rod onto the VCVs arm has broke. Anyone know where I can get one or have an other way to secure it?

Thanks,
Mark

82 240d. I live in southeast MO. None of our junk yards have any old mercedes in them. Closest would be St. Louis, 2 hours away or Memphis, 3 hours away. Not exactly easy for me to get to when I have to work through the week.

They get really brittle as they age. If you get one on and off, in one piece, it's an achievement. So a junkyard is going to be hit and miss.

The good news is that they are obtainable at the dealer (they were NLA for a while). Bad news is that they are $20 a shot.

I tried to come up with an alternative when mine broke on my wagon, but nothing worked for more than an hour or two....

They are $5.25 at the dealer retail and $4.80 wholesale.

Curt, can you post a picture of how you got it to stay in place?
Thanks,
Mark

I just tried to get a shot of it but it's too far down for me to get in focus. Basically, I put a ziptie tight around the rod to hold the plastic retainer thingy up on the rod. If your plastic clip is gone, you could put a ziptie loose around the rod and use that as an anchor for another ziptie to go up and around the arm on the VCV effectively holding the rod in place. Then, snug the ziptie around the arm. All this after putting the rod in the hole in the VCV arm.

Might be hard to discern what I mean but take a handful of zipties out to the car with you and see what you can come up with.

This reminded me that I had to do that back in the mid-2000s on my old SD as those clips went completely NLA for a while.

As I recall I had two or three zipties involved to keep things in place as there is a reasonable amount of pressure on that joint.
