W123 OM617 Lift Pump on W115 617?

Hi All,

Just picked up a 75 W115 and will be tackling drip timing this weekend. Looking at the primer pump on the 115 (I have the big round one on the fuel filter) I am wondering if I can install the later lift pump (I have a spare) on the earlier IP so I can put on once of those new plastic Bosch primer pumps on it.

Any info would be helpful.

Thanks,
Curt

Check this sites part lists for the parts compatability? Never owned a 115 diesel myself.

The injector pumps are most likely to be different. The MW pump fitted to the turbo has a slightly different lift pump this has a wheel that runs on a cam inside the IP...

...whereas the M pump has a plunger

Pictures taken from this thread

http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/294499-refreshing-fuel-pump-om617-european-spec-%96-non-turbo.html

Whilst the lift pump at the start of the thread shown above is for a later IP a M/RSF variation I'm pretty sure the earlier M pumps also have the plunger style lift pump...

...chapter 07-001 in the W123 non turbo section seems to back up my theory. (Numbers are either the same or very close)

Interesting.....I had no idea the m pump had a piston....

Couldn't one switch a newer style mw non turbo ip onto a w115? I know it won't work on the 240D w115 as there is no internal oilier on the ip...

In the case of a W115 it probably has the pneumatic governor with the buttery fly valve / throttle body on the intake - so that would have to go - and then there's the whole oil supply thing running from the intermediate shaft area into the IP that's needed for the MW pump (and the later M/RSF pump)...

I'm fairly sure I have an MW pump..just a really old one. I think I have the same one as in this thread. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/339643-1976-300d-injection-pump-delima-2.html

I'm also a little curious as to what the adjuster is where the ALDA would be on an MW pump.

Best way is to check the numbers on the IP with the numbers on the lift pump and the data in the FSM

Here's the plate off the IP.

Seems I have the PES 5 MW 55/320 RS4. It's an MW pump.

Now, I need to see if I can get a picture of the lift pump. Little more difficult waaaay down in the engine bay. There's a lot less room in the W115 than there is in my W123.

Definitely the "wheeled" lift pump then - the turbo one should fit.

That is awesome news. Thanks Army!!

Now to figure out how to get to it. Looks like I'll have to go through the wheel well.
