New to me 300D -updated with pic again - in & outside
Well finally after years of searching I finally took the plunge and purchased a 1984 300D this weekend. It has 144K miles, is nautical blue with blue tex, was owned by the same people for the past 25 years. It has always been a 3rd car so it never saw our horrible salt covered Ohio roads except from the comfort of a garage so yes it is 100% rust free. They even gave me a fat folder of records back to 1992! This color or thistle green are my favorites so I was thrilled to find this just over 110 miles from my home in Cincinnati. Here are some pics - it drives and runs amazing.

Inspect the Rubber parts as soon as possible.
Engine Oil Cooler Hoses (It has not happend for a long time but some have lost their Engine because of Oil Starvation due to a Hose leak) Transmission Cooler Hoses Motor Mounts (If one of the Mounts is squashed enough the Power Steering Belt has been know to cut through one of the Oil Cooler Hoses) Transmissions Mount Drive Shaft front and rear Flex Discs (the front one is hard to see without removing the rear Support Plate; a when one goes it has been know to tear the end of the Transmission off) Driveshaft Support Rear CV Axle Boots (The stock Axles were filled with Oil similar to Differential Oil and it can leak out of cracked Boots resulting in no lube inside) All Suspension Parts that have Rubber Boots When the Rubber on the Upper and Lower Control Arms goes bad it produces inner or outer edge Tire Wear. This is all I can remember right off. I had to replace all of the stuff in the above list. If you have any trouble at all with your Ignition Lock Tumbler Turning investigate that ASAP and get the Tumbler out while it can still turn/index into the position where it can be removed. If it gets stuck and you cannot unlock you Steering Colum it takes some drilling/grinding to remove the Steering Colum Lock. I'd be really surprised if there were no rust ("100%") whatsoever on a car that age from Ohio. You just don't know where and when the car was driven before the 25 year owners bought it - if what they told you was true about where/when they drove it. If it was driven even one Winter, there'll be evidence left on the car. The two pics look good though!

Fair
Well that is a fair statement about the rust. I am sure there is some somewhere, but I have been under it and all over and there sure is none that I can see. And I am not trying to sell it so felt it was fair to say rust free LOL!

A friend brought the same car as mine over a few years ago with 1/2 the miles as my car, but when I looked in the engine bay - it looked twice the age of my car with at least 300K miles on it! Garaged, never driven in the Winter, with a scant 144K miles - the engine bay should look almost new, but a little dusty... |

Really..
Ok, not trying to be a jerk, but I was just posting about the new car and how excited I was about it - was not really looking for an in depth pick apart of my car or the post - kind of killed some of the excitement,
Although I do appreciate the constructive advice provided earlier! |

To top it off you can perhaps get the total ownership history with a little good fortune in your buyers situation. I have no ideal of where some of my examples came from or any owners past history with them unfortunately.
These cars are getting to the age that good future and present care is worthwhile on a good example as well. They are starting to eclipse the image of almost common older cars now I think. As an example if a nice example like I suspect this one is came along I would probably snap it up myself. |

Uh, sorry David, but you're selective reading - again. Perhaps you missed my post of praise for the car? The OP brought up the "100% rust free" deal, not me. I'm not the only one requesting more pics, either.
