Need a PN for 603 coolent gasket

1987 300D. The upper radiator hose connects to an aluminum neck with some temperature sensors that then connects to the forward cylinder head. I need the PN for the gasket that seals the "neck" to the cylinder head. My dealer can't find it..

Welcome back!

I knew you'd be back to the 3-pointed star eventually...

The part you are looking for is in the EPC, not sure why the counter man could not find it.

I looked against my 87 wagon which should have the exact same engine (OM603.960).
Assembly M - Engine
Group 20 - Engine Cooling System
Section 15 - Water Pump
Find # 146 Gasket, Pipe Socket to Cylinder Head
601-203-03-80 (it's been superseded 4 times!)

Only caveat is that my car has the factory engine with a #14 head so that gasket may be #14 head specific.

BTW the 98 you sold me is running great, I drive it now, my wife missed her SUV too much so I bought her a 2008 ML320 CDI.

both my kids cars went to junkyard in 2023
2008 ML320 CDI (Older son’s DD) fatal transmission failure, water soaked/fried rear SAM, numerous other issues, just too far gone to save (165k miles)
2008 E320 Bluetec (Younger son's DD) injector failed open and diluted oil with diesel, spun main bearings (240k miles)

1998 E300DT sold to TimFreeh
1987 300TD sold to vstech

Thanks for the info, this car still has the #14. I'm glad my E300 is treating you well. I REALLY miss that thing. I've wanted a W124 diesel of my own ever since I had my Dad's '87 300D as a loaner when I was doing all of the suspension work on your car. Are you still running the H&R suspension? You need to post a picture of her for me.

Yes still have the H&R springs but did sell the rims to Vstech. I took the original rims and put new tires on them. I could tell the tires were going to need replacement within the next 20k or so and I'm just too practical, plus having a kid entering college rearranges your priorities pretty quick.

When I get time I will probably go back to the stock springs. I have too many problems bottoming out on speed bumps.

The front end being so low also puts the radiator support in serious jeopardy on curb stops. In fact my son was driving the car and hit a curb stop. This pushed the radiator into the fan, which broke the fan and destroyed the fan clutch. I didn't notice it for 3 days. I finally discovered it when I drove it next and wondered why the temperature was suddenly running 10 degrees hotter than before and the a/c was completely warm. He didn't breach the radiator or condenser, it was just the lack of air flow.

Luckily I was able to disassemble the front end, persuade the radiator support back into place, and replace the fan and fan clutch.

I do need to replace the front sway bar links, and I think I have a worn rear LCA bushing. So at the same time I am into all that I will probably swap the springs as well.

It's a shame that the H&Rs lowered the car more than advertised. On paper, it should've been similar to a factory E55 spring. I Just installed H&Rs on my CTS-V and it dumped the back by about 3", 3x more than it was supposed to.=. Working on spring spacers to get the ride height correct. Thanks again for the PN!
