I am not sure if others have taken this route when deleting their EGR but, I was not particularly happy with the design of the "kits" that can be found on this and other forums. The block off plates of these kits work without issue but when it came to the round discs that cap the end of the exhaust manifold I just wasn't satisfied with their design. The issue I had was getting the disc perfectly centered so when clamped it wouldn't leak.

My solution... I cut the factory EGR pipe off close to the manifold and had a cap tig welded on it. By doing this I maintain the factory lip that aligns it over the manifold, keeping the factory seal design and now no leaks.

Neet but since you're going through the trouble of welding, you may just as well weld in a fitting for an EGT probe.

A great idea and wish I had thought of that before I had the welding done but, being totally stock I'm not overly concerned about rising temps.

I got the idea from somewhere in the forum.
I had my engine out so i welded a nut into the EGR opening of the manifold and then screwed the probe right in.

Nice job! As far as the disc in the kit I offer, I plan to improve it on the next production run. The plan is to make it thinner and out of stainless steel, so it will form to the flange easier. I will probably be testing the new design next week. Although I agree that the disc in my kit is a little difficult to get sealed properly, with a little perseverance it can be done successfully (many have done so)........Rich

RollGuy, I posted a question about an EGR delete on the tech section, so I moved over today to this side.

What do you think of advantage do doing a Delete on my 85sd Cali?
If you like I wouldn't mind giving the revised version a try.
