aux water pump
its getting cold and im having trouble with my heater! i have tracked it down to the aux water pump not running but i am not understanding why. i pulled it out and it works fine when hooked up to a battery. when back probing the pump with the heater on it has no voltage going to it. i have checked fuses and still nothing. is there something i am missing. is the control board fried?
any help would be awesome! |

No experience with an SD. But on all the Mercs I've worked on, there is a fuse, inconveniently mounted on the back of the head unit, which supplies the aux pump. On later cars, it was replaced with an automatic circuit breaker, but I'm pretty sure an 84 would still have the fuse.

In my experience the SD's climate control unit had no fuse for the aux water pump. A popular mod is to add a 1A in-line fuse to the aux pump to prevent the push button unit from causing a fire if the aux pump should seize, draw current and generally anger the pbu.
I would suspect that your problem lies in the PBU. Perhaps the main fuse for the climate control system blew? Or a trace was damaged on the PBU?
