oil drains, oil pressures near sump

the upper oil pan, at least mine, has two ports for oil drains. one is the turbo drain tube that sits in a fancy gasket and has profile and an O-ring way up at top. the other is a nipple for the crankcase oil return which i have a rubber cap clamped onto. since i'm attempting to recreate the turbo oil drain with a flexible line (transmission hose or similar), it would be more convenient to use the plain nipple.

does the fact that the two nipples are at different heights indicate that the level of pooled sump oil reaches the lower port and not the upper? if my rubber cap disintegrates the short nipple would spew out oil? how do people reliably block these ports off if needed?

cutaway for reference:

The nipple for the crankcase oil return has a one-way valve in it so as long as the valve was functioning oil would not run out. My recollection is that these are no longer available, but the vacuum pump valves will work.

I'm sure someone will correct me if this is not right.

i had no idea there was a valve there, thanks! i will look closely when i go to hook this hose up. thankfully, the leak is still very slow.

You can fill the little Nipple with JB Weld Epoxy and you will no longer need to worry about Oi coming up out of that little Hole.

i'm going to try to use it before i fill it!

does anyone think a hose smaller than 20mm (3/4") would suffice for the oil drain? i can't find any transmission or PS hose in such a large diameter. the specialty hose place could only get me a 150 foot reel of it. i haven't been confident enough to try plain old coolant hose.

I think I might have missread your post. The below also applies to 3/4"ID Hose. GoodYear Slip Fit and the Parker version are sold on ebay.

I bought 5/8" ID GoodYear Silp Fit Hose on eBay and used it along with Clamps to replace My Oil Cooler Hoses. That size is close to 16mm.

Some People on eBay will sell Hose by the Foot but the Shipping is going to about $6 minimum.

When I fist did the Oil Cooler Job I ordered 1/2 " ID Hose that turned out to be too small of an ID for the Job. I had to oder the 5/8" ID Hose.

During the 2 Weeks it took me to get the 5/8" Hose I used a section of heavy Duty Heater Hose and drove My Car as liitle as possible and kept My Eye on the Oil Pressure Gauge for the 2 weeks till the Hose arrived.

You Turbo Drain is not under pressure.

This is a Conversion Site. If you convert 5/8" to a decimal you can use this site to get the mms.
