The distance between the centers of the holes to which the mounts bolt is exactly pretty-damn-close-to-22''. Sorry it's dark in my backyard

no problem, when you first asked about the engine dimensions i didn't feel like crawling under the track, but measuring the frame was really simple with the engine out.
Now when i think about it it'd be interesting to see how the gwagen's mounts of the 617 look like. Maybe someone who knows can tell you but i don't imagine the mount were different.

So what year and model don't matter on the length of the motor mount arms? It came out of a 1981 300sd

Be careful when setting the engine in the vehicle, as the motor mounts are not symmetrical between the sides. I'd recommend setting the transmission mount first along the centerline, then align the front pulley on the centerline and fab up motor mounts for one side, then fab up the other side to match the engine support arm, and not base it off the other side. It will never line up.

If you use the MB transmission and keep the flex disks you'll also want to align the front pulley with the driveshaft. I'm guessing the Wrangler has a solid rear axle, so that won't be possible.

By the way, you can probably use the yardstick in the picture to get your dimension side to side on the motor mounts.
