13 psi to 13.5 psi Boost. Too Much?
I tested my 617 turbo and found it was only making 8 psi of boost max.
I built a manual boost controller, see: The"D.I.Y."Manual Boost Control and installed it on long hoses so I could adjust in in the cabin while driving. I set it to 13 -13.5 psi max boost at 4000 rpm. Is that too much boost? I then adjusted the ALDA top screw (the tamper seal was already broken) out another 1/3rd turn, so the screw was all the way CCW, and stopped. This adjustment made an obvious improvement in power. It doesn't make any black smoke, so I could shim the ALDA and readjust the top screw for even more power. |
I think that is about what it should have.

If the set screw is all the way CCW, are you confident that there are any more ALDA-related gains to be had? My impression (I could be mistaken) is that having the set screw all the way CCW has the same as having no ALDA.

Some People remove the ALDA.
As you noted the extra Boost is no good withoug extra Fuel. If you keep adding both it is a good Idea to install a Pyrometer so you can monitor your Exhaust Gas Temps. After X Exhaust Gas Temp it gets hard on the Engine. |
hell I hit over 22psi all the time, been doing it 3 years,no problems.

Thank you for the advice. I'm not looking for ultimate performance.
I think I will keep it as it is for now. It runs good and accelerates much better than before. I'll wait to see how the mpg has changed before doing more. |

I only hit 20 while my slush box flares into gear. My KKK k26 normally sees 14-15... I need to crank her down to 12.5 though... I can smell my EGT's.

No its real boost, but I try and hold pedal to 14 which is a safe psi. When I propane injection to provide more fuel,i'll run higher.
