headlights!!!

hey i have a 73 220d, i saw some replacement glass headlight lenses on ebay... i wondered if i could replace my US spec plastic with this glass lens? IE, replace the plastic with the glass and keep the housing and trim as is... has anyone done it?

Could you clarify what your intended goals are? The US spec lights and the Euros are so different, that it is not clear to me what you are hoping to change and for what effect. For instance, do you plan keep the main headlight bulb in its US position (towards the top) or in the Euro position (towards the middle)? Do you want the blinkers to be yellow and if so, where is that color coming from (yellow plastic or a yellow bulb below the clear glass you show).

Obviously anything is possible with respect to custom fabrication, but it seems that if you want the Euro look, it would be best to just buy Euro headlights (despite their cost).

without going to far into detail about how and if this would work, i imagined being able to remove the plastic outer lens and use that glass lens to go as a direct replacement and fit under that chrome trim ring... i dont know if that is possible... i just thought it was worth asking considering a used euro spec headlight set seems to start around $500... thanks for your reply

Its not possible. You need the entire euro headlight assembly to use those lenses. I would assume they can drop right in like they do on the later W123 and W124 cars without too much fuss.

Will not work.
USA headlight sticks out too far to clear the euro lens.

Not to mention many other issues...

You can swap out the USA set for euros but you also have to modify the wiring and mounting tabs.

BTDT.
