w126 No Charging Light / No Charging!
Hey guys
I have an 87 300sdl that is not charging my battery. I recently had a no start condition and thought it was just the regulator, which in the past was an easy fix to charging issues. I also got a new battery, and went about 3 or 4 days with no issues, until I had low battery voltage again. I then realized that the charge lamp was not coming on when I would start the car...or at all (so I lost my battery with no indication that there was no charging going on) I read about the bulb being needed to complete the circuit, and have swapped and replaced with a new bulb, but no dice. I took the regulator out and cleaned some contacts, as well as the three wire connector to the alternator. Still nothing. The wiring from the alternator appears to be fine, not fraying or splits that I can tell. All of the warning lamps on the left side of the cluster work, except for the charge indicator. I am thinking this is an issue, but it could just be a bad alternator....just trying to figure out before I buy one. I can't help but think that if the alternator was indeed bad, it would set off the indicator though! The only other problem with the car, which is probably not related, is the seats and steering wheel suddenly do not have power anymore. I replaced all fuses and they still do not work. Any thoughts from those that have had this issue?
